Day 01: Trip starts in Kovalam
Today you will reach Kovalam and check-in at the hotel. Spend some time on the beach of Kovalam and enjoy the pleasant weather here. Kovalam is the best of all the beaches in Kerala and there are many cafes on the sandy beach where you can enjoy a variety of drinks.
Day 02: Morning cycle ride, afternoon free to relax on the Arabian coast
This morning is your first day of trying out bikes on this biking tour, so today you will start with a comfortable and introductory ride. Today you will be cycling through some of the beautiful fishermen villages located around Kovalam. Today the distance of your cycling tour will be about 10 kilometers, while there is an option to extend the cycling tour to 32 kilometers in these beautiful villages. After the afternoon you can spend your time as you wish. Either you can walk on the sandy beaches or go for pounding surf. In the evening, one can spend time sitting in a cafe on the beaches and watching the view of the fishing boats. Kerala is famous for herbal care and Ayurvedic massage. You can also spend your time taking Ayurvedic massage therapy. The famous Kerala massage and the oil of herbs used in it have the ability to cure many diseases.
Day 03: Drive to Veli Lagoon; visit Anjengo Fort and cycle to Varkala
This morning you will go 20 kilometers cycling to Veli Lagoon where there is a big lake on the seashore. While cycling here, you will see fishermen working on their navel and nets. Arriving at the other side of the lake, you will visit the Anjengo Fort for the British built by the British East India Company in the 17th century. Here, you will also visit the ancient temple of Janardhana Swami where many pilgrims have come. After that, you can relax on the Varkala beach and enjoy the stunning sunset. Today you will be cycling for a total of about 37 kilometers.
Day 04: Cycle through traditional Keralan villages to Kollam
Today you will be cycling in the traditional village of Kerala. In the morning you will spend some time at Kollam beach and go ahead to Ashtamudi Lake with the blue lagoon. There are some fishermen's villages surrounded by coconut and cashew plantations from all sides. Where you will see old wooden houses is built in the typical Kerala style. This village is situated at the southern end of the backwaters, from here, it is clear about the network of canals and lagoon. Today you will be biking for about 36 kilometers while visiting these beautiful villages of Kerala.
Day 05: Boat trip along Backwaters; cycle to Mancombu
After having breakfast this morning, you will go for some distance riding a car and then start a cycle journey through the countryside. During this journey, you will cross the river riding a big boat. You will see that people here load their bicycles and motorcycles etc. into this boat and cross the river. Cycling continuously, you will reach the township called Thottapalli and here you will see the Manarsala Snake Temple. Today's cycling tour will see people in many villages falling in the fire making fibers from the outer husk of coconut from which later ropes and mats etc. are made. Apart from this, you will also see local fishermen catching fish. From Thottappalli you will board the bus and reach the place from where you will experience backwaters. From here you will travel for about 3 hours on a comfortable ride on a boat through the backwater. Passing through the backwaters, you will be able to see people spreading their life around and far and wide you will see vast fields of rice crop. At the end of your journey, you will reach Alleppey, an ancient trading town. Today your cycling journey will be around 39 kilometers.
Day 06: Morning cycling through Backwaters' villages; sunset canoe trip
Today you will be cycling in the village located around the backwaters of Alleppey. While cycling here, you will be able to interact with local people and apart from this; you will get an auspicious opportunity to visit many churches and temples. You will see people preparing traditional houseboats with the use of Anjali wood (Artocarpus Hirsutus). Here you will see the locals rowing together, pushing the boat into the water and singing local traditional songs. Apart from this, you will see local people doing many types of tasks in their everyday life. In this way, today you will do about 35 km of the cycling tour.
Day 07: Drive and cycle to Erattupetta; Planters Homestay
Today you will go cycling to a new place Erattupetta which is famous for its rubber plantations. The climate here is a bit cold and you will be cycling here in the shade of rubber trees. Here you will stay at the home of a local family that will host you. Local families will cook traditional curries and other dishes for you and you will also roam with them in rubber gardens. Here you will stay in an air-conditioned home-stay at night so that you will be able to feel the local life and the surrounding environment. In this cycling tour of today, you will travel a total of about 33 kilometers.
Day 08: Cycling & Exploring
Today's you’re Cycling Tour is dedicated to tree plantation campaigns. Today you will get a golden opportunity to meet with the local people when you participate in the plantation with them. During this time you will also get information about many fruits and medicinal plants. Apart from this, you will also get a panoramic view of the Poonjar Palace in which the Maharaja and his family have been living for the last 900 years. In today's journey, you will travel at least 9 kilometers. There is also the option of cycling up to 32 kilometers if you want to make it a bit more challenging.
Day 09: Drive and cycle to Thekkady; visit plantations and tea factory
Today, you will go cycling through the slightly hilly areas and go to a place called Thekkady. On the way, you will pass through a place called Wagamon where you will see beautiful tea gardens in the cool climate. Here you will also visit the tea factory and you will see how the different types of tea are prepared. Apart from this, you will also be able to see rubber plantations and various types of spice gardens here. Here you will also get the opportunity to meet the local people picking tea. After this, you will travel the last few kilometers through urban areas through busy roads. Here you will be able to feel the beautiful aroma at many spice shops. Today, you will cover about 30 kilometers of cycling in total.
Day 10: Forest walk, explore Thekkady - Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary
Today you will visit the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Thekkady, which is a well-known tiger reserve of India. In the secluded environment of this beautiful sanctuary, you will get the opportunity to see a lot of wildlife. In the morning you will be able to see the star tortoise, porcupine, Elephant Indian bison, flying squirrel and many types of birds while walking in the forest. The trees in the evergreen tropical forests are more than 40 meters high and open grasslands are also present outside them. You can also see wild elephants wandering in these grasslands. Here in the shade of tall trees, where the light rarely reaches, you will also see rare plants of many different species. Today you will not take any biking trip.
Day 11: Great cycle descent to Kuttikanam, drive to Kochi
Today you will enjoy a freewheel ride of about 20 kilometers between the beautiful views on the winding roads of Kuttikanam. After this, after traveling for 3 hours, you will reach Kochi, which is a beautiful natural harbor and is also known as the Queen of the Arabian Sea. It also has old European settlements made up of a mixture of English, Dutch and Portuguese influences. Kochi is also known for the famous Kathakali dance that began with traditional rituals performed in temples. In this, the dancers' faces are painted for about 3 hours and then the Kathakali dance is performed. In this dance, events of Mahabharata and Ramayana are presented with facial expressions and eye gestures. Today you will be biking for about 30 kilometers.
Day 12: Tour of Kochi by cycle; evening boat cruise
Today you will go sightseeing in Kochi while cycling. First, you will pass through the old city of Fort Kochi which was established in the second century BCE and used to be an important trading center for China, Arabs, and Phoenicians. Portuguese and Dutch arrived here in the 16th century. Here one can see many Dutch palaces built with the influence of Dutch styles. Apart from this, you will also see the process of fishing from Chinese fishing nets. Here you will also see the oldest European Church of India and the oldest synagogue. In the evening you will see the beautiful sunset on the seashore. Today, cycling will be around 10 kilometers in total.
Day 13: Tour ends Kochi
Today, this beautiful cycling tour in Kochi will end. After breakfast in the morning, you will be transferred to Kochi International Airport from where you will take a flight back to your home.
